The idea for Ares Materials began to take shape during Dr. Adrian Avendano's work on QUALCOMM's Mirasol display project and was further developed throughout the PhD years of both Dr. Avendano and Dr. David Arreaga, culminating in 2015. They identified a significant challenge in the microelectronics industry: the lack of tunability in mechanical properties, often at the expense of optical performance. This insight, coupled with the recognition that available substrates lacked reliable mechanical properties, highlighted a critical need for innovation in the field.
In 2016, Ares Materials was officially founded after securing venture capital funding, with the mission to revolutionize materials design and production for the electronics industry. Their work with Thiol-click chemistry offered a solution that preserved optical properties while providing unmatched mechanical versatility, paving the way for the development of lighter, more durable, and flexible electronic displays.
